Microsoft has a hotfix that seems to address the "crash on save" issue, which has made a huge difference for me. If you are experiencing this problem, please request hotfix for KB 905409 from Microsoft. You can request the hotfix using any of the means listed on this website or by calling 800-936-5700.
The installation intructions from Microsoft are somewhat cumbersome, so I can distill them to the following steps.
- Request the patch from Microsoft as described above
- Run the executable you get from Microsoft (entering the password they give you). It will unzip an executable into a location of your choice.
- Run the new executable, which will unzip another executable into a location of your choice.
- Run the (even newer) executable.
I would appreciate it if anyone who does this please report here whether it resolves the problem for them.
Thanks!

I have done everything I can think of and it still doesn't work for me.
I even started over using the Windows tool to remove Office 2003. Did a fresh install, then used SP2, then used the hotfix.
Still crashes on me when I try to save.
Any suggestions?
I really, really love this program and want to use it so bad, but the crashes keep me from saving my progress. Any suggestion on getting around the crashes? even if I can't get it to work the correct way, is there a way I can still use the program? |

I'm sorry to hear your still having trouble. The hotfix completely fixed the "crash on save" problem for me. One of the users here has contributed a workaround that I'll try to put in by Monday, which should get you through the short term. In the meantime, I'm making good progress on the Java based version, which should be available at the end of this month and not affected by Excel bugs.

| Would it be possible for you to simply host the hotfix? |

Would someone else then :>
I don't see why it's just a fix for Excel 2003, my Excel 2000 crashes as well, stating something wrong with the vbe6.dll as well... and seeing as though the fix is for Office 2003, my product ID doesn't work because it's for Excel 2000 so I can't get the fix.
So if someone wouldn't mind pming me a download link or something :>
Thanks! |

Couple of things:
My guess is that the hotfix probably wouldn't help much anyway... since it's written for 2003.
Secondly, Office 2000 is no longer under mainstream support by Microsoft, so there aren't any non-security hotfixes that will be released for it. Hence why there isn't a 2000 version of the patch. I believe that support for Office 2000 is slated to end in 2009.
There's a non-office version of the software in development. So I'd hang in there until it's released. |

Ah ok. It's just that it's a problem with the same dll file, I was just assuming that it might work. Can't hurt to try hey |

I'm having problems installing the hotfix. I sucessfully requested the hotfix, downloaded it (268944_intl_i386_zip), and unzipped (office2003-KB905409-GLB), but when i try to use the windows installer patch it says that either the program is no longer on my computer or I have the wrong patch.
I've checked and I still have Excel 2003 installed on my computer and the KB number seems to mean its the right patch...
It should be obvious that I'm not the most compter literate person in the world. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks |
